Important note for non-Muslims
Entry to Makkah is restricted to Muslims. The Al-Shumaisi checkpoint sits on the Jeddah road before Makkah, and a bypass route lets non-Muslims travel around the holy city.
Traffic and seasons
Traffic peaks during Umrah, Hajj and Ramadan and on Fridays. For a calmer trip, start early in the morning.
Getting there without a car
🚆 The Haramain train is ideal (~35–45 min from Al Sulaymaniyah). 🚌 Public buses are cheaper but slower (~1.5 hrs). ✈️ No flights (the distance is too short). 🚕 Taxis and private transfers are very common for pilgrims with luggage.
